Superdrug Shuns Burn For Summer
Superdrug and Teenage Cancer Trust to continue fight against skin cancer
United Kingdom (1 May 2008)
This summer Superdrug is continuing its ongoing focus on summer skin safety partnering with Teenage Cancer Trust (TCT) on its summer SHUNBURN campaign. The campaign will focus on young Brits; recent research shows that almost a quarter (23 per cent) dangerously believes that wearing tanning oil will protect them in the sun.
Later this month a British A list international face of the campaign will be announced following in illustrious footsteps; in 2006 supermodel Cindy Crawford and in 2007 British born Hollywood star Mischa Barton. The star will feature in a photographic and educational campaign in all its 913 stores, in the media and at festivals and events throughout the summer.
| Over the last two years Superdrug has raised over ¢G300,000 to promote awareness of skin cancer and research. This year's campaign with TCT will include: |
| • |
Free BURN ALERT texts warning people to take care when sun is forecast |
| • |
Education material in all stores on the importance of sun safety |
| • |
A donation to the charity from sales of high factor spray Solait, Superdrug's own range of sun care |
| • |
A ten per cent discount on Superdrug¡¦s Solait range of sun care to those who sign up to the SHUNBURN campaign |
| • |
A SHUNBURN crew will roam festivals and beaches and parks of Britain offering free samples of Superdrug¡¦s SOLAIT sun care and tips on being safe in the sun. The crew will visit over thirty locations in the UK this summer |
| • |
An education programme visiting schools and colleges giving sun safety advice and a discount on Superdrug¡¦s Solait |
| • |
A fund raising item designed by the face of the SHUNBURN campaign |
| • |
A ball in July to raise funds for charities including Teenage Cancer Trust |
| |
|
| In addition Superdrug will continue: |
| • |
To lobby the Government about its SUN TAX campaign to see sun protection reclassified as an essential health item seeing a reduction in VAT payable from 17.5 to five per cent |
| • |
To expand its high street Mole Clinic service to over 60 stores across the country |
Jeff Wemyss, Superdrug Trading Director said: "Sun safety is vitally important as the number of Britons being diagnosed with skin cancer rises every year. Our plan this year is to make it easier than ever for our customers to choose the right protection and right advice for their skin at the same time as raising funds for this very worthwhile charity."
